MADRID Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Pique said here Monday that Spain strongly supports Iran's campaign against drug trafficking and to this end a memorandum of understanding is to be signed by the two countries soon.
Pique told IRNA that Spain would have more cooperation with Iran in the field of anti-drug campaign compared to other European states.
Spain strongly supports President Mohammad Khatami's initiative on dialog amongst civilizations and considers it as a factor of peace among nations, said Pique.
He said that his country takes the idea of dialog among civilizations as the key to political, economic, social, cultural and scientific issues and has supported the idea since it was first proposed by the Iranian president.
Iran occupies a high position in Spain's diplomacy, said Pique, adding that to further promote mutual ties more steps should be taken on the basis of mutual respect and acceptance of the internationally recognized values.
He expressed hope that the next week visit of Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar would lead to broadening of relations.
